About the Job
We’re hiring a Scientist II to join our Research team; this is an excellent opportunity for a PhD with 2-4 years of experience in either biotech or the pharmaceutical industries. The area of research will directly impact Ossium’s current products for blood cancer and orthopedic treatments as well as lead to discovery of new applications. The overall research focus of this position will be to develop methods for isolating and characterizing mature and progenitor immune cells from human bone marrow. Experience with isolating and/or propagating other stem, committed progenitor and mature cell types, such as mesenchymal stem/stromal cells, common lymphoid/myeloid progenitors, monocytes/macrophages and T cells, is also of interest. This work will involve adapting established protocols as well as developing and implementing novel methods and tools when required.
This position reports directly to the Vice President, Research.
Required Qualifications
- PhD in life sciences, engineering or equivalent
- 3+ years of documented experience with stem cell isolation and characterization
- Experience in aseptic handling and propagation of primary cells
- Experience with scRNA-seq and bulk RNA-seq data generation and analysis
- Experience with current bioinformatic tools to analyze self-generated and publicly available RNAseq datasets
- Focus on quality, attention to detail, and results
- Able to meet deadlines while working within strict timelines
- Strong interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills as well as demonstrated ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams
- This position is based in our Indianapolis office; you’ll be in the office Monday - Thursday with the option to work remotely on Friday
Preferred Qualifications
- A degree directly related to Immunology
- A working knowledge of safety, quality systems and quality assurance concepts
Key Responsibilities
- Independently design and conduct a variety of complex and independent investigations
- Synthesize published data to plan, develop, and implement original experimental procedures within the overall scope of isolating and analyzing hematopoietic and stromal cells of interest from whole bone marrow obtained from deceased organ donors
- Direct (not manage) one or more Research Associates
- Collect, analyze and report on experimental data
- Prepare progress reports and presentations
- Create and maintain accurate and timely records of test results and protocol designs
- Participate in meetings with Principal Investigator to evaluate and interpret the validity of data and evaluate laboratory procedures
- Act as a preceptor and mentor to new Research & Development employees as needed
- Interact closely with other departments within Ossium Health, including but not limited to Development, Production, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Clinical Operations, and Regulatory Affairs
Schedule
- Full-time (40 hours per week)
- Some weekend/evening/holiday may be necessary depending on experimental timelines
Notes:
This position requires working with human and animal tissues; training in blood borne pathogen safety measures will be provided. New hires will be given the option of Hepatitis B vaccination.
This position requires use of cryogenic substances (liquid Nitrogen); training in the use of liquid nitrogen will be provided.
