OVERVIEW OF POSITION:
The CNC Machinist for our team is responsible for setting up and operating various CNC machines using Fanuc and Siemen Controllers, including 3 and 5 axis. They will perform high quality-low volume machining of metal, composite, and graphite parts in an Aerospace Production environment. They are responsible for selecting and mounting tooling, determining feed and operating speeds, performing cut-off, trimming, counter sinking, drilling, and checking parts for dimensional accuracy. The Machinist must demonstrate a strong knowledge and understanding of blueprints, shop math, and the ability to transfer files from a computer to a numeric controller.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Set up and operate production machine tools.
- Select and mount appropriate tooling for machining operations.
- Determine the appropriate feed and operating speeds for efficient machining.
- Perform cutting off, trimming, counter sinking, drilling, and other machining operations.
- Verify the dimensional accuracy of machined parts using measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
- Interpret blueprints and technical drawings to understand machining requirements.
- Utilize shop math skills to perform calculations and ensure accurate machining processes.
- Transfer computer files to the numeric controller to initiate machining operations.
- Monitor machine operations and make necessary adjustments to maintain quality and productivity.
- Conduct routine maintenance and cleaning of machines to ensure proper functioning.
- Adhere to safety guidelines and protocols to maintain a safe working environment.
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production goals and timelines.
SKILLS • EXPERIENCE • EDUCATION:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 5 years of machining experience.
- Ability to read and interpret work instructions and technical diagrams.
- Excellent manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to work with precision.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Willingness to join and comply with union rules and regulations.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Identify and communicate any issues or concerns regarding machine performance or product quality.
- Maintain accurate documentation of machining operations, including production logs and inspection records.
- Stay updated with the latest machining techniques, technologies, and industry trends
- Work independently to prioritize and complete assigned tasks efficiently.
- Inspect finished parts for defects, imperfections, or deviations from quality standards.
- Report any issues or deviations to the supervisor or appropriate personnel.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring tools and equipment are properly stored after use.
- Follow all safety protocols, guidelines, and regulations.
